Sils started slowly and in the early minutes of the game Coalville scored a great goal. The team then started gelling together which led to some excellent play that resulted in the ball being passed to Steve Leonard who smashed in an unstoppable goal.1-1.Throughout the first, half play passed between the 2 teams with Ian, Mike, Craig and Mack a solid four at the back limiting Coalville's opportunities. Capn’t Dugdale made some excellent saves in goal and Gary brought the ball higher up the pitch creating more attacking opportunities.
In the second half, for the first 10 minutes, Sils held the Coalville attack off well, but their persistence was starting to pay off. Sils were beginning to tire with Coalville's constant attacks and in the last 20 minutes scored 4 goals. Despite the score, which did not truly reflect the game, Sils played some great hockey and continue to make progress with Will Maidenmart claiming Man of The Match for his energy and enthusiasm.
To hold off the top of the league team for so long was a great achievement and shows how much we are improving as a team and what a learning curve we are on. It would be great to see even more at training (Tuesday 7-8pm) for even more progression. We have and will continue to make our presence felt in this league and have lots more enjoyable moments as a team.
